Anthropic's Claude Mythos AI, an advanced AI model developed by the company, identified 271 vulnerabilities in Firefox browser during internal testing. The Mozilla browser developer, Mozilla, stated that the advanced AI systems can analyze large codebases and identify weaknesses previously required manual review by human cybersecurity researchers. The company had previously tested another Anthropic model that identified 22 security-sensitive bugs in a previous Firefox release. Despite these successes, Mozilla acknowledged that the cybersecurity industry has long viewed the elimination of software exploits as an unrealistic goal. The results suggest that AI tools could allow developers to uncover large numbers of vulnerabilities before attackers exploit them, but could potentially pose major trouble for software firms and users alike. However, the same technology could also enable new forms of cyberattacks.
