Epic Games layoffs today: Fortnite losses force video game maker into 20% job cut

Video game maker Epic Games, the creator of Fortnite, has announced it is cutting 1,000 employees, or about 20% of its workforce, due to a decrease in Fortnive engagement in 2025. The layoffs are not due to AI but due to ongoing legal issues with Google and Apple, which Epic argues that they violated antitrust laws by forcing users to pay for apps and in-app purchases through their app marketplaces while taking a percentage of every transaction. The company also faces a $1.5 billion investment from Disney.
