New Rochelle Street Astronomer, 'Jupiter Joe,' Learns Fate years After Killing 13-Year-Old Girl

Joseph Martinez, a/k/a Jupiter Joe, of New Rochelle, has been sentenced to 25 years to life in prison for the 1999 murder of 13-year-old Minerliz Soriano. The case was solved using familial DNA and Martinez was found guilty of two counts of second-degree murder (felony and intentional). The crime was unsolved for two decades before Martinez was arrested in 2021 on murder charges related to the unsolved homicide. Prior to his arrest, Martinez taught astronomy to kids and was known as Jupiter Joe.
