Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn) is urging states to continue their lawsuit against Live Nation and seek a breakup of Live Nation-Ticketmaster. This comes after the Justice Department reached a settlement with Live Nation, which is owned by Ticketmaster. The lawsuit accuses Live Nation of using its position as the nation's largest concert promoter, ticket seller, and venue owner to undermine competition. A report led by Blumenthal alleges that Live Nation had more influence in driving up ticket prices than it previously claimed. The report also criticizes Ticketmaster for pushing artists to adopt dynamic pricing, which led to a 700 percent increase in ticket sales for North American concerts between 2019 and 2022. It calls for a price cap on secondary sales and congressional restrictions on ticketing practices.
