Senator Gallego Presses Energy Secretary Chris Wright Over 'No Detail' On Reserve Fuel Allocation Plans
Published on March 18, 2026.
Sen. Ruben Gallego (D-Ariz.) has written to Energy Secretary Chris Wright for details on the department's approach to using the Strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR) to mitigate rising fuel prices. Gallegos is concerned that the release of the SPR may not benefit all Americans equally and has questioned the lack of transparency and allocation of the fuel. The deadline for these answers is April 6. The rising oil prices have led to fears of a potential recession, with Fidelity suggesting a full-blown recession could occur if oil prices reach $135 a barrel.
