A thermal pad modification can increase sustained clock speeds in the MacBook Neo under heavy loads, but it is not recommended for most people to attempt. The modification was discovered by a user on the r/MacbookNeo subreddit using two stacked thermal pads positioned between the processor's heat spreader and the bottom case. The pads transfer heat from the processor into the aluminum shell instead of letting it accumulate around the chip. This move allows the processor to maintain higher speeds before thermal throttling begins, which is called thermal throttled and can increase case temperatures and may affect warranty coverage. If the MacBook Neas needs warranty service, users need to remove the thermal pads and restore the system to its original configuration.
