The parents of an 8-year-old passenger, Megan and Ryan Conaty, are suing Alaska Airlines for causing "serious burns" to her legs, abdomen and genitals after she was served an "un-lidded cup of hot tea" on an Alaska Airlines flight from Boston to Portland, Ore. The civil complaint was initially submitted in Rhode Island Superior Court on Nov. 17, 2025, but has now been moved to the state's district court. The incident occurred about 45 minutes before landing and occurred when the flight crew offered a last drink service for passengers. The complaint alleges that Ryan asked the flight attendant for hot tea for AC and a cup of decaffeinated coffee for himself, but the attendant did not provide a cover for the hot tea, nor advise either Ryan or AC that it needed to be cleared or placed in the tray table for drinks. The parents are seeking damages in excess of $75,000.
