SAG-AFTRA has extended its negotiations with major Hollywood studios into June, ahead of the Writers Guild of America's (WGA) negotiations. The two parties had been working towards a resolution of their disagreement over key issues but failed to reach it. Despite this, they announced the extension late Sunday night after the Oscars. They also stated that formal negotiations would resume later this spring. This extension gives SAG-AFtRA plenty of time to finalize a new agreement before the current contract expires on June 30. Negotiating this agreement has been a significant task for newly elected President Sean Astin, given these are the first official talks between the guild and the AMPTP on a TV/Theatrical contract since the contentious 2023 round.
