Colorado Mesa baseball coach Chris Hanks and the Mavericks are the No. 1 team in Division II, capable of achieving their national title dream. The Mavericks, who have made 22 NCAA Tournament appearances and four College World Series in Hanks' 28-year tenure, lost to the University of Tampa in 2019 and were the closest they've ever reached the pinnacle of Division II. Despite these losses, Hanks insists that the team is not focusing on the national title, focusing instead on other aspects of their success. The team is ranked 45-4 by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association and has won 27 of the last 28 games and finished 31-1 in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play to clinch their 19th RMAC title under Hanks.
