The California Air Resources Board (CAB) is undergoing one of its most significant reshuffles in years as term limits and retirements occur amid political pressure from the Trump administration and rising energy prices. The Newsom administration has been flexing its influence over the board, including appointing the governor’s trusted climate adviser, Lauren Sanchez, as board chair and rescinding an appointment last month. Dawn Ortiz-Legg, the San Luis Obispo County supervisor Gov. Gavin Newsom appointed to the board last February, was informed by Newsom's office that her service was no longer needed. The board is set to take up major decisions on the state's efforts to reduce carbon emissions from cars and the future of the state’�s carbon market.
