Australia, Japan Finalise Deal for 3 Naval Frigates

The Australian and Japanese governments have signed contracts for the first 3 of 11 Mogami-class frigates, at a cost of around AU$10 billion (US$7.4 billion). The deal sets up the arrival of the first three vessels, which will be built by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries. The Japanese option was chosen over the German Thyssenkrupp-manufactured TKMS MEKO A-200.
