Carnegie Mellon University students are advocating for a defined policy on the campus landmark, The Fence, following a controversial incident last summer. Students claim that the university's leadership violated its own policy by painting "Shame on you" and "No rapists on campus" on the fence, which they believe violates free speech protections. Since the fall, a working group has been established to review the policy surrounding the Fence and make recommendations to the university president. Students have delivered a petition to university president Farnam Jahanian, urging reassurance that the Fences tradition will remain intact. There has been no official deadline set for the working group, but Jahanan is looking forward to receiving their recommendations in the coming weeks.
