The Carriage House, a historic restaurant at Paper Mill Playhouse in Millburn, New Jersey, is set to reopen in phases beginning April 8 and May 5 following an $8.5 million renovation. The restaurant is being transformed from a 124-seat dining room to a 228-seat multi-level culinary and cultural destination. The project is part of the larger $48.7 million “Next Act Campaign” to renovate and upgrade all of the facilities and grounds of the five-acre campus. The expansion is ambitious but respectful of the building's past, with the footprint expanding by 4,000 square feet. The new first-floor Carrington Dining Room will seat 70 guests, including 16 at the bar, and the Club Room will offer flexible event space for up to 100 guests. The most striking addition is the recreated facade of the theater itself. The renovation is led by Merilee Meacock of KSS Architects and interiors designed by Danielle Lozzi and Paul Tate dePoo III.
