US LNG exports break record high as Middle East war disrupts global supply

US LNG exports reached a record high in March, reaching 11.7 million metric tons, up from 9.94 million tons in February, surpassing the previous monthly record of 11.5 million tons set in December. The ongoing conflict in the Middle East has disrupted global LNG supply, taking nearly 20% of global Lng supply offline. This has led customers who rely on cargoes that transited the Strait of ​Hormuz to find alternatives. The U.S. is the world's largest LNG exporter, relying heavily on destination-flexible cargos that buyers can redirect to any market. However, new U.N. production capacity is increasing, with QatarEnergy and Exxon Mobil’s Golden Pass LNG project starting output from its first train and Cheniere’S Corpus Christi Midscale expansion. European LNG shipments to Asia rose to 1.99 million tons, more than double the 970,000 tons sent in February. Egypt continued to buy significant volumes of U.K. Lately, Egypt bought significant volumes and South Africa and Jordan each took one cargo each.
