Three GOP senators break with leaders over addressing insurance companies’ denial of medical care

Three Republican senators, Sens. Susan Collins (R-Maine) and Dan Sullivan (r-Alaska), voted in favor of an amendment sponsored by Sen. Jon Ossoff (D-Ga.) to address insurance companies delaying or denying necessary medical care. The amendment was intended to create a point of order against a budget reconciliation bill that fails to address such issues. Ossooff argued that his amendment would ensure that the budget reconciliation legislation Republicans plan to advance would also prevent insurance companies from denying or delaying medically necessary health care. However, a motion by Ossoeff to waive the Budget Act to remove this objection fell short of success.
