This includes a public guarantee from federal authorities to refrain from immigration enforcement operations at games and venues. Human Rights Watch has criticised the crackdown, claiming it violates free speech and due process rights and creates an unsafe environment for minorities. The 2026 World Cup will be the first time the tournament will feature 48 teams.
