The Minnesota Legislature is considering a bill to make plug-in solar, or balcony solar, available to Minnesotans. The bill, co-authored by Rep. Larry Kraft, DFL-St Louis Park, and Sen. Rob Kupec, would eliminate fees or paperwork that your local utility might require, provided the panels are certified to meet national safety standards. The technology, which costs less than electricity from coal or natural gas in most parts of the world, significantly reduces our reliance on fossil fuels and democratizes electricity by reducing our dependence on big utility companies and oil-rich nations. Despite recent controversies over climate change, this bill could be the answer for Minnesoteans who have been seeking a solution.
