President Trump is working to form a coalition of countries to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, where Iran's blockade of the Gulf's narrow strait has caused oil and gas prices to rise as it restricts Gulf oil exports and allows tankers carrying Iranian crude to pass freely. The coalition is expected to be announced later this week. In a post on Truth Social, Trump announced that the U.S. and several other countries will send warships to the Gulf to reopen commercial shipping and called on China, France, Japan, South Korea, and the UK to assist. He also demanded that NATO countries and other oil-importing nations, including China, assist in securing the safe passage of oil tankers. However, as long as the blockade continues, even if he could end the war, he could not end the conflict even though he could. The main effort now lies in securing political commitment from allies.
