The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) has filed a lawsuit against the Trump administration for delaying the release of $60 million in contractually obligated funds for the second phase of the Second Avenue subway tunnel. The complaint alleges that New York has been deprived of nearly $60m that was promised to support the project. The project, which began construction two years ago, is designed to extend the Q line nearly 2 miles into Harlem and East Harlem and is scheduled to connect riders from the 4, 5, and 6 lines to the Metro-North Railroad. The Trump administration has provided a variety of excuses for blocking funding for the project and for the Hudson River tunnel project, including supposed contracting compliance, the Democrats' position on immigration, and Trump's feud with Democratic Minority Leader Chuck Schumer.
