Canada's job growth remained modest in March, with the unemployment rate unchanged at 6.7% from the previous month, according to Statistics Canada. The employment rose by a net of 14,100 jobs, marking the first time this year that the job market grew. However, this gain was not enough to offset 109,000 total job losses in the first two months of the year. The unemployment rate among the core-aged workforce, 25-54 years old, and youth remained unchanged in March from February. The job gains were largely led by part-time jobs, with full-time employment dropping by 1,100. Economists predict that unemployment will gradually ease as the population growth rate cools. The economic momentum has weakened due to a wave of U.S. tariffs on key sectors including steel, aluminum, autos, copper and lumber.
