Lena Dunham, creator of "Girls" and creator, Lena Dunham, has written a memoir about her struggle with endometriosis, stating that she was in pain 24 hours a day and demanded a hysterectomy at the age of 31 due to her symptoms. The procedure, which removes the uterus and other organs, was not a choice for Dunham as she was already in pain. She credits her mother's support and determination to push for the hospital to confirm her need for the procedure. Dunham also struggled with an addiction to medication, particularly the anti-anxiety medication clonazepam (Klonopin). She credits years of surgeries, therapies, medications, and side effects for her decision to accept a hyosterectom.
