A bill aimed at protecting religious freedoms in Louisiana has advanced to the Senate floor, seeking to criminalize protests at a place of worship. The Senate Bill would ban protests within 50 feet of a church if those protests interfere with worship, resulting in a $500 fine and up to 15 days in jail. Churchgoers argue that there is a fine line between the right to protest and his right to worship. Sen. Bill Wheat Jr. testified that his bill does not infringe on First Amendment protections. If passed, it will go to the House for further debate.
