Writer Julia Little did not believe her health was affected by stress or other issues, but was diagnosed with autoimmune progesterone dermatitis seven years ago. She experienced severe symptoms including severe hives, exhaustion, chest tightness, stomach upset, panic, depression, and rage towards herself. Despite seeing over 50 specialists and spending tens of thousands of dollars on testing, medications, and visits to the ER, her symptoms were dismissed as anxiety. Eventually, she found out about the condition, Progestogen Hypersensitivity (PH), which can be triggered by birth control use. The condition is often referred to as autoimmune progestone Deritis (APD). Little knew she might never carry out a pregnancy due to the risks and potential side effects of this condition, but did not know that her life was worsened by this condition. Little did know that short exposure to the progestin-only pills could lead to a life-altering diagnosis.
