The national average gas price rose to a wartime high of $4.39 per gallon, marking the biggest one-day jump since a ceasefire with Iran was announced on April 7. This comes as crude oil gains for the year to more than 80%. President Donald Trump has stated that he wants to maintain the U.S. naval blockade on Iranian ports, which has been enforced since April 13. However, experts believe that the price of oil will remain elevated after the war ends, given Iran's ability to effectively halt ship traffic through the critical Strait of Hormuz. The 1973 War Powers Resolution requires the president to get authorization from Congress to maintain military forces in a conflict for more than 60 days, but this has not been used so far.
