The United States Department of Energy has approved a cross-border permit for a new pipeline project, the Bridger Pipeline Expansion, which would transport Canadian oil from the U.S.-Canada border to Guernsey, Wyoming. The project still requires additional federal and state environmental approvals, but construction could begin as soon as next year. This move brings back a long-standing debate over North American oil pipelines. The original proposal was halted in 2000 after years of protests over its climate impact and potential threats to Indigenous land.
