New Yorkers of Iranian-descent reacted with mixed emotions following the death of Ayatollah Khamenei, who was killed in the American and Israeli military strikes. Milad Hour, who teaches marketing at Fairfield University and has lived in the U.S. for seven years and participated in protests in his native Iran, expressed joy and trepidation over the decision to kill Khamenei. Some at a restaurant where Iranian flags were displayed, expressed their joy and fear. They also expressed confusion about liberal friends expressing condolences for their condolences. Meanwhile, Yosef Baheri, a PhD student in computer science at Stony Brook and an Iranian Jew who came to the US four years ago, expressed his pride in the victory of the military action.
