Senate Bill 756, which allows for the construction of a casino in Fairfax County, Virginia, has been sent back to the Senate for reconsideration after delegates voted down a motion by Del. Rodney T. Willett (D-Henrico) to add substitute language to the House General Laws Committee, which included public safety and transparency requirements. The bill was approved by the House Appropriations Committee as amended, removing the $150 million fee requirement, raising the casino licensure fee from $50 million to $100 million and setting the casino tax rate at 40 percent of adjusted gross revenue, with 50 percent allocated to the locality. If passed by both houses of the General Assembly and signed by Gov. Abigail Spanberger, SB756 would allow the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors to decide if a casino should be built in the county.
