The national average price for regular gasoline jumped 11 cents overnight, according to AAA. This is the largest single-day rise since Russia invaded Ukraine four years ago. Rising crude futures are more likely to blame for the overnight price hike. The price of crude is the primary factor in how much U.S. drivers pay for fuel, and higher oil prices usually occur within weeks. Nearly 30 states saw the average price of a gallon of gas increase by at least 10 cents, and in three states, the price jumped by more than 20 cents. However, Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy, stated he does not anticipate the national average gas price hitting $4/gal anytime soon.
