Thousands lose power across Louisville region
Published on March 16, 2026.
More than 10,000 people in the Louisville area lost power during severe storms over the weekend, with thousands of households and businesses affected by power outages. Following the power failure, prepare for emergencies, including if the power goes out, have an emergency kit ready with medical supplies, water, and non-perishable food. Unplug any appliances or electronics to prevent power surge damage once the power is restored, but keep the refrigerator and freezer doors closed to preserve food. Use battery-powered lights instead of candles, which pose a fire hazard. Always operate a generator in accordance with the manufacturer’s guidelines and instructions, and never use more appliances and equipment than the output rating of the generator. If a power line falls across a car, stay in and avoid potential fire or other life-threatening situations. If necessary for emergency use, call 1800.543.5599 or visit the LG&E website.
