The advisory is valid from 2 p.m. to 2 a.m., with South winds of up to 30 mph predicted. The weather service warns that unsecured objects could cause tree limbs to fall and power outages. The agency classifies high wind alerts into three categories: sustained, sustained winds, which are not so strong as to warrant a High Wind Warning, or severe thunderstorm warnings. If you are caught outside or driving, take shelter in a sturdy building and move away from falling trees or power lines.
