Apple's new iPhone 17e, which replaced the previous year's iPhone 16e with a faster processor and more RAM than is necessary at this price point, has been found to be less costly than its predecessor, the iPhone 17. The 17e does have MagSafe, a slower, older version of the technology, which is capped at 15W rather than the latest 25W. The author tested the two devices using an official Apple MagSafe charging puck and a 67W power adapter to measure real-world charging speeds. The difference in wireless charging speed was noted, with the 17e taking just over three hours to completely charge wirelessly, while the 17 can do the same thing in a little over two over two minutes. However, the time taken to reach 80 percent is considered more important for long-term battery health, as it's better for long term battery health if you don't charge to full every time. The article concludes that while the speed of wireless charging is still considered a significant difference, there are still cases where speed does not matter. Despite these issues, the Apple 17e's larger battery capacity and a slower version of MagSafe is acknowledged as a significant improvement.
