Nuclear power is gaining momentum in the United States, with a 5-megawatt nuclear reactor being delivered to Utah by military aircraft. Once operational, the reactor should provide enough energy to power about 5,000 homes. This could be used to meet rising demand for increasing artificial intelligence data centers. However, long-term nuclear waste management is also a concern, as SMRs have yet to be proven. President Donald Trump has facilitated the expedited rollout of SMRs by consolidating the power needed to deploy nuclear generators. The upcoming plant in Utah is expected to be operational by July 4 and fully commercialized by 2028.
