Airline files for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, cancels all flights

Regional airlines, particularly regional airlines, are particularly vulnerable to economic downturns due to smaller customer base and smaller customer bases. These include the UK's Eastern Airways, Blue Channels, Sweden's Braathens Aviation, and Iceland's Play Airlines. In the US, Spirit Airlines is trying to emerge from its second bankruptcy and Total Air Services also filed for Chapter 11 protection in Texas last November due to rising costs of operations and inability to cover them with enough sold tickets. French national carrier Air Calédonie, the flag carrier for the remote French overseas territory of New Caledonia, has filed for bankruptcy under French law and is seeking court permission to resume certain domestic flights under court protection. If rejected, its assets will be placed under the control of an independent third party.
