Invest in One Health to prevent pandemics, safeguard populations, strengthen health collaboration: WHO’s call on World Health Day
Published on April 6, 2026.
The World Health Day (World Health Day) is urging the Western Pacific Region to invest in One Health to prevent pandemics, safeguard populations, and strengthen health collaboration. The World Health Association (WHO) has highlighted the interconnectedness of human, animal, and ecosystem health, highlighting that too often these challenges are addressed separately with fragmented solutions and funding. The agency recognises that protecting health requires collaboration across sectors, disciplines, and countries. Examples of countries taking action include Indonesia, Indonesia, Tonga, Malaysia, and Malaysia. The One Health Summit, co-hosted by France and Indonesia, is the highest level gathering ever to advocate for the One Health agenda and aims to turn commitments into comprehensive action against zoonotic diseases, AMR, food systems and climate change. The Global Forum of WHO Collaborating Centres reiterates the importance of sustained investments and partnerships, highlighting the need for science and medicine as tools to help countries detect disease outbreaks earlier and prevent disease outbreaks, improve food safety and a more prepared workforce.
