Texas AG Issues Opinion Making It Illegal for Mental Health Providers to ‘Transition’ Children

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has issued an opinion stating that it is illegal for state-licensed mental health care providers to "transgender" children. This decision was made to clarify a 2023 law which prohibits state health care provider from offering such procedures to minors. The opinion was prompted by the passage of Senate Bill 14, which prohibits using "gender-affirming care" procedures such as puberty blockers, hormone therapy, and surgeries to treat gender dysphoria.
