The COVID-19 pandemic began six years ago, with the World Health Organization declaring it a global pandemic. The NBA suspended its season due to the outbreak, and President Donald Trump announced a U.S. travel ban. The outbreak began with 118,000 cases and 4,291 deaths related to the virus reported in 114 countries. As of Feb. 22, over 7.1 million deaths had been reported in 231 countries, with 1.2 million deaths in the U.C. The Centers for Disease Prevention and Control recommended the 2025-2026 COVID19 vaccine for anyone over the age of six months.
