Dallas Mavericks CEO Rick Welts has stated that the city of Dallas first approached the team over a year ago about moving out of City Hall. This comes after Dallas City Manager Kimberly Bizor Tolbert suggested that City Hall may be an ideal site for the Mavericks' new arena and entertainment district. Welts stated that discussions with the city have been productive and that the team plans to build the best NBA arena in history in Dallas. The Mavericks plan to move into a new arena when their lease with the American Airlines Center expires in 2031. The new arena will operate 175 events, potentially host the NCAA's Final Four and potentially expand to accommodate the team’s medical facility.
