The Red Sox's decision to trade Rafael Devers to the San Francisco Giants in June has already impacted the team's fortunes in 2026. The team has been missing Devers' impact bat and has used some of the remaining $254 million left on his contract to sign southpaw Ranger Suarez to a five-year, $130 million contract. Despite this, Boston's 2-7 on the season, including a loss to the Padres, and nine errors in their first nine games. The Red Sox also received Jordan Hicks, Kyle Harrison, and a pair of prospects from San Francisco. Despite these improvements, the team has not yet seen a significant return.
