President Donald Trump has renewed his call to end the filibuster in the Senate to ensure the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE America) Act passes. The bill, which requires voters to show photo ID and those registering to vote to provide proof of citizenship, is currently in limbo in the upper chamber of the Senate. Some Republican senators, like Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas), argue that changing the filibuster could allow for the bill's passage. However, Democrats have largely opposed the bill, arguing it would disenfranchise voters and limit college students and married women from voting. Supporters of the SAVE America Act argue that the bill was not drafted to pass the Senate through the budget reconciliation process.
