The article suggests that if we don't invest in reducing physical climate risk now, we will pay for it later. The 'Amazon COP' in Belem, billed as the "Amazon COP", aimed at putting adaptation and resilience on a par with cutting emissions, particularly for the most vulnerable countries. However, the summit fell short of a credible pathway to close the adaptation finance gap and provided little clarity on how to mobilise private capital at a scale. The author argues that the tools to achieve this exist exist but are lacking in scale. They suggest that investors should either invest in resilience by design or by default in the future.
