Feds blame Pritzker, IDOT for CTA safety problems

The Federal Transit Administration (FTA) has issued a warning of safety issues in the Chicago Transit System (CTA), blaming Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker and the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT). The FTA is launching a safety inspection of the city's transit system and will review IDOT's involvement in safety investigations, including the CTA's Roadway Worker Protection (RWP) program. The FTA has identified repeated and persistent deficiencies in IDOT’s oversight performance, including "weak accident investigation governance" and ineffective action on correcting past safety concerns. This comes after both the FTA and CTA announced it was adding more police presence across the system.
