Some top Democrats are debating whether the party's best chance for winning back the presidency in 2028 is to nominate a straight, white, Christian man. This comes after Democrats fell short twice to President Trump, both times with women on the ticket. Some Democratic leaders, donors, and strategists are deeply pessimistic about what voters will accept now. This has led to a debate within the party over electability. Michelle Obama, former first lady, pushed the discussion into public view in November, stating that there are still many men who don't feel like they can be led by a woman. Not many women are currently considering presidential campaigns in 20 28, though Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer is another possible candidate. Some potential 2028 contenders have refuted the notion that the country isn't tolerant enough.
