Family Drama ‘Sundays’ Beats ‘Sirāt’ at Spain’s Goya Awards

Alauda Ruiz de Azúa's Basque family drama "Sundays" won best picture, director, best actress, and best original screenplay at the Goya Awards, Spain's top film honors. The film beat Oliver Laxe's Oscar-nominated sci-fi drama "Sirāt" which won six awards including best international feature Oscar and best sound. Other winners included Eva Libertad's "Deaf" for best new director and actress for its portrayal of a deaf woman navigating pregnancy and motherhood with a hearing partner. The ceremony was attended by Susan Sarandon, who praised Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez and local artists for their moral courage.
