Boston Mayor Michelle Wu's tourism director, John Borders IV, is leaving City Hall for a position with Boston Legacy FC, a pro soccer team that is partnering with the city on a contentious public-private rebuild of White Stadium. Critics have accused the team of giving a significant financial advantage to the wealthy investment group that owns the team. Borders, who has previously worked for the Boston Celtics and the Patrick administration for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, plans to leave his position at the end of March and start his new role with the Legacy in early April. His transition comes amid criticism that the $325 million stadium rebuild has been a giveaway to the group. The stadium project has nearly tripled its cost since its announcement two years ago and now requires taxpayers to contribute over $190 million for its half of the renovations.
