King County reports 22% drop in 2025 crime rate, with murders and car theft down

The King County Sheriff's Office reported a 22% decrease in crime in 2025 compared to 2024, with murders and car theft down nearly 19%. Property crime, including auto theft, was down by almost 50%, which the Sheriff’s Office said equates to 1,200 fewer victims. The decline was attributed to more proactive police patrols and limited resources being allocated to areas where crime is most prevalent. The Sheriff's office also reported an increase in "onviews," or arrests made when a deputy sees a crime happening in real time rather than responding to a 911 call, increasing onview activity by 14% since 2021. Over 2,800 guns were recovered, an increase of 91 from the previous year.
