N.Y. Homeowner Makes Shocking Backyard Discovery of 19th Century Human Remains: 'I Saw the Eyes'

A New York state homeowner, Brian Cardella, made a shocking discovery of centuries-old human remains in his yard while excavating his land for a new shop. The remains were initially identified by New York State Police but were deemed historical and unrelated to any criminal investigation. After discovering additional remains, the New YorkState Museum conducted additional research and identified the skull as from the 19th century. The museum also found evidence that the person could have been in a coffin and potentially colonial due to their positioning and wood and nails found at the site. The Museum is planning to move the remains to a cemetery for reburial, but Cardella wants them to remain in the yard.
