Carla J. Peterman, president of PG&E Corp. and executive vice president of customer and corporate affairs, has suggested that AI data center boom could benefit ratepayers in the Central Valley, where the region is well-positioned to handle the massive power loads that require the power of AI data centers. She argues that every gigawatt of new load brought onto the grid can reduce residential rates by roughly 1% per capita. Peteman also highlighted the potential benefits of bringing large new loads online during off-peak hours, which shifts the economics in consumers' favor.
