Back to business: Investor confidence in Jalisco remains high 10 days after security crisis
Published on March 3, 2026.
The economic recovery in Jalisco, Mexico, has been largely unaffected ten days after the Feb. 22 anti-cartel military operation and aftermath of the incident, with 88% of businesses reporting direct economic impacts, including losses exceeding one million pesos (US $56,600) each for medium and large companies, while losses for micro and small businesses were primarily between 10,000 ($566) and 50,000 pesos ($2,830). The impact of the operation was seen in everyday life, with hotel occupancy increasing from 15% to 40% following the incident. The American Chamber of Commerce (AmCham) Guadalajara chapter, consisting of 16 large U.S.-owned companies operating mainly in the state, agreed to not halt or suspend its investment projects following the crisis. Despite concerns about the potential connectivity crisis fueled by fake news on social media, all domestic and international air routes were quickly restored and 95% of events scheduled for 2026 are confirmed.
