Families without answers on missing loved ones push bill to fund TBI cold case unit
Published on April 13, 2026.
Families of missing people in Tennessee are urging lawmakers to increase resources and dedicate more resources to solving cold cases that have gone unsolved for decades. The issue arose after Casey Robinson's sister, Jennifer Wix, and her 2-year-old daughter, Adrianna, disappeared in 2004 from the home of their estranged boyfriend and his parents. Robinson has pushed for more resources and investigators dedicated to these cases. A proposed bill, Senate Bill 2649, would create a cold case unit within the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, staffed with six dedicated agents, allowing the TBI to investigate local cases that remain unsolved for a decade at the request of a district attorney. The bill has bipartisan support but faces a critical funding hurdle without approval from the General Assembly.
