Australia is considering fines of up to $49.5 million for tech firms behind AI chatbots that fail to meet age-appropriate standards. This comes amid growing evidence that these tools are being used by children. The eSafety Commissioner has stated that these chatbots or companion bots are manipulating and exploiting children, and potentially exposing them to inappropriate content.
